English as a Second Language (ESL) students must be proficient in English before they are able to begin academic classes at American universities and colleges. Besides learning English, they are expected to know how to use computers and technology proficiently, too. Even before they begin classes, they must be able to apply, take placement tests, and register for classes. Many international students can use technology proficiently, but there are some that cannot. For these students to be successful, as they are learning English they need to be exposed and use technology so that it does not prevent them from successfully completing academic coursework.
